River engineering & morphology
Rivers are complex systems; their behaviour reflect the interaction between hydrodynamics, morphodynamics and ecological processes. They define the cultural and socioeconomic development in their vicinity. River managers around the world are continuously struggling to keep rivers fulfilling a multitude of functions; they deal with problems that range from the very small-scale such as local scour, to an intermediate-scale such as dredging to maintain navigability, up to the very large-scale such as the response of the entire river to engineering works. Deltares provides integrated and sustainable solutions that involve all these scales.
Deltares’ mission is to provide specialist advice and to develop knowledge & tools for design, construction of engineering works and management of rivers, canals, reservoirs and lakes. We advise on: hydraulic & morphological related phenomena, bed and bank protection, inland navigation, sediment management by dredging and nourishment, design of river engineering works, closure works & hydraulic structures, and environmental impact assessment.
Our most important asset is an elite group of experts on hydrodynamics, sediment transport & morphology, river engineering works, water quality & ecology, and Hydrology. The most important numerical modelling tools are our in-house state-of-the-art models Delft3D and Sobek. In some cases physical modelling is applied.
Deltares offers advise on:
- Sediment transport and morphology
- Bed & bank protection
- Inland navigation
- River training
- Dredging & Nourishment
