IJkdijk

The IJkdijk is an international test setup for new inspection and monitoring technologies for water barriers.

The purpose of the IJkdijk is to look into whether these inspection and monitoring technologies can be used to improve the inspection of levees in order to gain a clearer understanding of their behaviour. The ultimate aim is to establish the current strength of levees so that we in the Netherlands can intervene sooner and more reliably should that prove necessary. The levee of the future is being designed and tested by the IJkdijk.

IJkdijk is an initiative of N.V .NOM, STOWA, Stichting IDL, Deltares and TNO and is situated in a small polder of Staatsbosbeheer (the National Forest Service in the Netherlands) to the south of Nieuweschans in the management area of Waterschap Hunze en Aa’s (Water board).

The IJkdijk has been built in a small polder to the south of Bellingwedde, in the management area of Waterschap Hunze en Aa's.
