EU project links satellite images with ecological model
Since the beginning of 2011, Deltares has been involved in the European project CoBiOS, Coastal Biomass Observatory Services. In this project we are working to combine coastal ecological models with satellite images from the European seas, to provide valuable information that is of service to the fishery or tourist industry. For example, by forecasting algal blooms and presenting the information via a user friendly internet portal.
Of course the policy makers also benefit from this service (like for instance the European Marine Policy Directive). Although the project is still ongoing until end 2013, the user friendly portal will soon be launched.
In the CoBios Consortium our partners are:
Association for Christian Higher Education Research and Patient Care (Vereniging voor Christelijk Hoger Onderwijs Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek en Patientenzorg) The Netherlands, Universiteit Hamburg Germany, Suomen Ymparistokeskus Finland, Water Insight BV The Netherlands, DHI Denmark, Brockmann Consult GmbH Germany, Institute Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique Belgium, Geographic Resource Analysis & Science A/S Denmark
