For the first time, the survival chances of mangrove seedlings have been determined in relation to the dynamics of sand sedimentation. The result will be an improvement in the returns from replanting or restoring mangrove forests.

The Galgeplaat sand nourishment trial in the Eastern Scheldt was completed recently. The result is positive. Nourishment stops the Galgeplaat tidal flat eroding as quickly and nature is recovering well. And there has not been any negative effect on mussel farming in the area.
Minister Schultz van Haegen (Infrastructure and the Environment) will be on a working visit to Washington and New York from 4 to 6 March to see how the Netherlands and the United States can work together more closely on water defences.
