assignment/short description
The aim of the project is to strengthen the water sector in Mongolia in their capacity to implement
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). This takes place at academic level (qualified
water graduates leaving the universities), professional level (the main institutions involved in IWRM
in Mongolia) as well as governmental level (the main actors involved in decision making on water
management). The project is implemented by the Water Authority (WA). The main components of the
project are:
• capacity building at universities and professional institutes
• institutional strengthening of the Water Authority
• development of a National Integrated Water Resources Management Plan
• development of River Basin Plans for the Tuul and the Orkhon
The project is carried out by two teams of Mongolian specialists. The capacity building component is
executed by a team of staff members of the universities involved. The other components are carried
