assignment/short description
Mexico's federal electricity commission CFE commissioned the extension of a power plant at the Petacalco industrial complex in the state of Guerrero, at along the Pacific coast. The new part of the plant is one of the largest in Mexico and supplies a power of 700 Megawatt. The Petacalco Power Plant requires a cooling water system comprising the main components intake channel, pump station, pipeline network, condenser and cooling water outlet. Deltares carried out integrated hydraulic studies for the cooling water system.
Study objectives
The main objectives of the conducted studies were to determine hydraulic boundary conditions in the intake, to evaluate the design of the hydraulic structures (intake, pump sump, outflow channel) and to assess the hydraulic behaviour of the cooling water system during normal operation and emergency conditions.
