Innovative drinking water production with ceramic membranes

Period: 2008-2010
Location: The Netherlands
Client: PWN

assignment/short description

For PWN, the drinking water company of the province of Noord-Holland, Deltares participated in a joint industry project. In this project, a new innovative membrane vessel design by PWN is investigated. Research has been performed to ensure no unacceptable water hammer phenomena occurred in the newly developed system during normal and backwash operations. A combination of CFD and water hammer simulations with WANDA were used in this project. Next to this investigation, Deltares offered support to PWN in operating the pilot plant for a period of two years.
