Earth science expertise is essential to many of the key challenges facing society today, such as the energy transition, the sustainable use of earth resources, and the fair and balanced use of the North Sea. These challenges first and foremost require deep and broad technical expertise. But while working on these challenges, earth scientists also face broader questions and moral dilemmas.

How can we best support the energy transition? Is there a role for oil and gas companies? What is the role of academia? Where should we source metals and minerals to ensure that green technologies are beneficial for both people and planet? Which users of the North Sea should get priority over other users?

The meeting will be held at TNO-Geological Survey of The Netherlands, Princetonlaan 6, Utrecht. This is at the Utrecht Science Park, see their website for information about accessibility.
