About Abhi Mathur

Abhi Mathur is a Project Engineer within the Energy and Underground Infrastructure group and the Geotechnical Laboratory at Deltares. He holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Applied Physics from the University of Groningen, with a strong emphasis on experimentation, instrumentation, materials science, and optics.

In his role at the Geotechnical Laboratory, Abhi is responsible the analysis and reporting of test results and supports the implementation and continuous development of current and future geotechnical testing programs. The laboratory performs a range of tests on diverse soil samples from across the Netherlands and around the world. These tests are essential in determining soil properties, forming the technical foundation required for safe and reliable infrastructure projects. Through this work, Abhi directly contributes to Deltares’ mission of “Enabling Delta Life” by ensuring that critical geotechnical data is accurate, reliable, and applicable to real-world challenges.

Abhi applies strong analytical and inquisitive thinking to critically evaluate laboratory data and ensure its quality and consistency. His background in experimental physics enables him to troubleshoot complex testing systems and optimize laboratory processes when technical challenges arise. In addition, he brings well-developed interpersonal and teamwork skills to his role, serving as an effective bridge between the experimental and research divisions and helping to align laboratory operations with broader research objectives.
