About Ingrid Rijk

Ingrid Rijk is a senior researcher/advisor specialized in soil quality, ecosystem ecology and environmental toxicology. The main focus of her work is to assess impacts and mitigate adverse effects of environmental contaminants and anthropogenic stressors in terrestrial ecosystems. Hereby she combines extensive field measurements with laboratory experiments and multivariate modelling. Ingrid has a background in environmental consultancy, and completed a PhD and postdoctoral research projects at Örebro University in Sweden. Thereby, Ingrid has specialized in investigating effects on soil ecological functioning (“soil health”), (eco-)toxicological risk assessments, and nature-based solutions for remediation of contaminated sites.

Ingrid participates and leads international research projects with public and private stakeholders, all committed to improve soil health and increase environmental quality. Ingrid is employed at Deltares since 2026. She is active in various international networks, for instance she is a member of the steering committee of the Global Soils Interest Group at the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and a member of the NICOLE network on sustainable management and remediation of industrially contaminated land.
