About Vinoth Ganapathiraman
Vinoth is a geotechnical engineer and applied researcher in the Soil, Water, and Structures (SWS) department at Deltares. He specializes in soil–structure interaction, numerical modelling, and internal erosion processes. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Anna University (India), a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering from IIT Kharagpur, and a PhD in civil engineering from the University of British Columbia (Canada).
His doctoral research focused on internal erosion in sand–gravel mixtures, where he designed and built a flexible‑wall permeameter to investigate the behaviour of internally unstable granular systems. This expertise contributes directly to Deltares’ work on dike reliability and aligns with Moonshot‑2, which aims to improve flood resilience and protect populations from flooding.
Vinoth has broad international experience across consultancy and research roles in India, Singapore, Canada, and the Netherlands. At Deltares, he works on soil–structure interaction challenges involving quay walls, foundations, and other geotechnical structures, using PLAXIS, D Series and other modelling tools. His work contributes to Moonshot‑5 by improving the safety and resilience of geotechnical structures in delta environments.
He is motivated by bridging advanced geotechnical research with practical engineering solutions that enhance the safety, reliability, and sustainability of critical infrastructure.
