About Didrik Meijer

Didrik Meijer is a senior specialist in modelling, monitoring and urban drainage. Since 2014 he has worked for Deltares as senior specialist and advisor for the department catchment hydrology. As project leader and modelling specialist he has been working on the the Mojana Flood study and Cauca model mitigation project in Colombia. These projects consist of the building of runoff 1D and 2D models in SOBEK and the optimization of the operation of the reservoir Salvajina. He also coordinates the development of data validation software for Deltares and is involved in the 1D2D development of Delft3D Flexible Mesh (Delft3D FM). From 2004 till 2014 he worked for Witteveen+Bos as urban drainage specialised.

As specialist and project leader he has carried out all kind of urban drainage projects. Examples are:

  • modelling studies to analyse and improve existing drainage systems
  • design of urban drainage systems
  • monitoring projects of urban drainage systems
  • policy projects

He has worked for e.g. the waterboards Hollands Noorderkwartier, de Dommel, Brabantse Delta, Delfland and Rijnland and for e.g. the municipalities of Leeuwarden, Rotterdam, Haarlem, Amstelveen, Haarlemmermeer, Zaandam, Roermond, Barneveld, Alkmaar. From 2001 till 2004 he worked in the province La Union in Peru. He advised the irrigation boards on water management of the River Ocona en Cotahuasi and about irrigation.

Since 2006 Didrik has worked as teacher for Stichting Wateropleidingen (foundation for water courses) and Stichting RIONED (national organization for urban water and sewerage in Netherlands). He teaches and gives courses about urban drainage.

Didrik is Deltares' regional manager for Latin America and the Caribbean.
