Dr. João Rego has twelve years experience in modelling and setting up operational coastal and marine systems in Portugal, in the Gulf of Mexico, in the North Sea, in Brazil, in Mauritius, in Thailand and increasingly in other parts of the World. With a focus on coastal hydrodynamics and flooding, he is experienced in the integration of different modelling techniques to solve water related problems, and has a diverse practice of multiple commercial and academic numerical modelling packages, such as Delft3D FM. He is gaining more experience in leading the design and implementation of operational monitoring and forecasting systems (Delft-FEWS), in project management and in capacity-building programs. He is also skilled in data acquisition and data quality control, oceanographic data analysis, various programming languages and project management.

Dr. João Rego graduated with a Ph.D. in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences from the Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge, U.S.A. (2009). Previously he had obtained a Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, U.S.A. (2006), and a Licenciado degree in Meteorology & Oceanography from the University of Lisbon, in Portugal (2004).
