Career as specialized consultant with emphasis on planning, risk management and capacity-building in developing countries, typically requiring substantial in-country presence. Using climate change and natural hazard knowledge, together with socio-economic data and NGO partners, to inform technical cooperation and new policies. Our initiatives often require inter-organizational insight and coordinating multi-party training.

Dr. João Rego has more than 13 years of experience in international projects involving water (management), infrastructure and extreme hydrometeorological events in Portugal, the Gulf of Mexico, the North Sea, Brazil, Mauritius, Thailand, Mozambique and increasingly in other parts of the World. With a focus on marine and coastal circulation and flooding, he is experienced in the integration of different modelling techniques to solve water related problems, and has a diverse practice of multiple commercial and academic numerical modelling packages, such as Delft3D FM. He’s also experienced in leading the design and implementation of operational monitoring and forecasting systems (Delft-FEWS), in project management and in capacity-building programs.

He is country-coordinator for Mozambique since 2017. Previously (2012-2016) he was country-coordinator for Brazil. This role includes defining the strategy, coordinating the ongoing work in-country and managing the most important accounts in those countries.

Dr. João Rego graduated with a Ph.D. in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences from the Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge, U.S.A. (2009). Previously he had obtained a Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, U.S.A. (2006), and a Licenciado degree in Meteorology & Oceanography from the University of Lisbon, in Portugal (2004).
