Award for Deltares Salt Water App

Published: 29 September 2014

Deltares has won third place in the Climate Adaptation Business Challenge, receiving the award for the ‘Salt Water APPlication’ (SWAPP) project. There were a total of 78 entrants from 28 countries. With the funding that accompanies the prize, Deltares will be able to develop the app further.

The app was devised in response to the problem of salinisation, which is becoming increasingly urgent for farmers and water management authorities in coastal areas. Climate change is the underlying cause. The app provides information about the electrical conductivity of the water, and the analysis of the data provides indications about where salinisation is occurring. That allows the users to take specific measures, for example by storing fresh water underground.
