Deltares to study smarter governance for public-private partnerships

Published: 16 September 2014

Deltares is to collaborate with the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Twente on a study of smarter governance for public-private initiatives. Increasingly, projects for public works are being tendered as innovative public-private partnerships. As a result, the governance structure for the project needs to be scrutinised.

Monica Altamirano (Deltares): ‘For the purposes of the comparative research, it is a good thing that the consortium will be sharing different experiences. Deltares has worldwide experience with complex water-infrastructure projects, the Erasmus University has an impressive track record in the field of water-governance issues, and the University of Twente has been involved with recent innovative contracts for Rijkswaterstaat and the RebelGroup. The latter is a major global player in the field of project financing and structuring.’

Deltares will mainly be contributing governance expertise relating to the procurement policies for water-infrastructure projects, and the execution and financing of ‘green infrastructure’ projects in the Netherlands and other countries.

The consortium that includes Deltares is the result of one of five proposals that were selected by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) from a total of 21 proposals.
