Sharing knowledge for innovative solutions

“The world demands practical and creative solutions, and the very best that we can provide by working together,” said directors Annemieke Nijhof of Deltares and Jacolien Eijer of Koninklijke NLingenieurs when signing the renewed memorandum of understanding.
With this step, the parties emphasised the importance of sharing and developing knowledge together to deliver innovative solutions for application worldwide. Short lines of communication and a good basis for teamwork make it possible to combine forces and tackle major challenges facing society.
Annemieke Nijhof, managing director of Deltares: “Dare to share is an important guiding principle for Deltares as a research institute. That applies not just to the models we develop, the data we have at our disposal, but also to the mindset of the people working at Deltares. Because our colleagues want nothing more than to share the knowledge and skills they develop. In that way, we can help to achieve progress and accelerate developments in our field with the ultimate goal of delivering solutions for the major issues of today relating to water and the subsurface. The more we can share with engineering firms, the more impact we can make together.”
Jacolien Eijer, director of Koninklijke NLingenieurs: “What I think is great, and that is what this agreement conveys, is that we really do need each other. In engineering, we can quickly put the knowledge and expertise that Deltares shares into practice. But it is important for us, in turn, to share our experience in practice with Deltares so that we know at an early stage whether we are on the right track, whether we are doing it right. And whether changes may be needed. In that way, we can develop and share the right knowledge much faster and come up with innovative solutions that can be applied worldwide and that allow us to compete internationally”.
In the coming months, both organisations will regularly demonstrate how the alliance can be driven forward by, among other things, sharing projects.
