Climate-resilient Hong Kong

Deltares helped Hong Kong in 2008 to establish a master plan for the northern section of the New Territories. Hong Kong wanted to make this low-lying area suitable for the further expansion of the urban area. Deltares provided advice about the structuring of the area, protection against high water, the construction of polders, and the design of the rural and urban drainage system, in part as eco-rivers. Using these ‘green adaptation’ measures prevented the ongoing spread of hard surfacing in the area, and enhanced the living conditions.

Deltares used the HYMOS software for data management, SOBEK for the calculations for the drainage system, and Delft3D for the morphological studies of the Shenzhen River, which is suffering from silting problems.
