Webinar “Sinking, shrinking, saltier deltas; How to deal with these issues?”
Deltares, Delta Alliance, WWF and Global Center on Adaptation organized the following session during the World Water Week at Home:
Sinking, shrinking, saltier deltas; How to deal with these issues?
Wednesday 26 August 2020, 10:00 AM – 10:45 AM CEST (Central European Summer Time)
Many populous deltas world-wide experience increased anthropogenic-induced pressures: accelerating land subsidence sinking deltas up to an order of magnitude faster than climate change-driven sea-level rise, salinization of surface water and groundwater, channel deepening and erosion. Solutions lie in sustainable management of groundwater and sediment within deltas and at basin scale.
Introduction by Kim van Nieuwaal (Delta Alliance), presentations by Marc Goichot (WWF), Gualbert Oude Essink (Deltares/Utrecht University) and Philip Minderhoud (Deltares/Padova University) and a reflection by Henk Ovink (Dutch Special Envoy of International Water Affairs) and Le Thu Thi Nguyen (World Bank).
