Over Aljosja Hooijer

Dr. Hooijer heeft sinds 1990 in meer dan 25 landen gewerkt, zowel in Europa als in de tropen. De meeste van zijn projecten zijn multidisciplinaire inspanningen geweest om oplossingen te vinden voor duurzaam beheer van land- en watersystemen, waarin hij actief was als adviseur, onderzoeker en vaak projectleider. Kerngebieden van zijn expertise zijn het beheer van watervoorraden en het beheer van wetlands/veengebieden. Activiteiten omvatten de ontwikkeling van monitoringsystemen in het veld, data-analyse, milieueffectbeoordelingen en training.


De afgelopen jaren was een kernactiviteit de ontwikkeling van op wetenschap gebaseerde, management ondersteunende projecten voor laagveengebieden in Zuidoost-Azië, welke 10% van het landoppervlak van de regio uitmaken, voor regeringen, NGO's en particuliere bedrijven. Deze activiteiten zijn geëvolueerd van processtudies (van de hydrologische en koolstofcycli, in relatie tot beheer en ecologie) naar effectbeoordelingen (bepalen hoe veengebieden worden beïnvloed door ontwatering en branden) naar praktisch beheer en herstel (met als doel deze effecten te verminderen).
