The approach for this study is to start with an analysis of the events for which an underestimation of the significant and swell wave height is observed, based on data and SWAN results from four past winter periods. The events are classified in six types, characterized by combinations of over/underestimation of wave height and simultaneously occurring swell. Five events were chosen to study in more detail, resulting in different hypotheses for the causes of wave underestimation.
