Erosion is one of the main causes of degradation and failure of dams, dikes and levees. Two working groups operating under the European Club of ICOLD are dedicated to this issue. The European Working Group on Internal Erosion in Embankment Dams, Levees and Dikes, and their Foundations, was created in 1993. The European Working Group on Overflow and Overtopping Erosion was created in 2019. Their objectives are to disseminate knowledge (recent results, case studies), and to give guidance to the practitioners in charge of assessing the safety of dams, dikes and levees. It is a place of exchanges between practitioners and scientists, and between experts, young engineers and researchers. This year, hosted by our colleagues at Deltares in the Netherlands, these two working groups meet jointly for the fourth time.
