Dr. Marcelle van der Waals joined Deltares in 2018 as a Junior Consultant/Researcher. She has more than 4 years of experience as a researcher in the area of applied and environmental microbiology. She has investigated a wide range of hydrogeological issues including groundwater contamination and bioremediation techniques such as biostimulation and bioaugmentation.  Marcelle van der Waals studied Earth Sciences specialized in Environmental Hydrogeology at the University of Utrecht. After that she did her PhD on the degradation of several biobased and fossil-based contaminants in the subsurface. During her PhD she applied different (bio)remediation concepts both in the laboratory and in situ for the treatment of contaminated sites in the Netherlands. She collaborated with industrial and academic partners including oil&gas companies, different universities and consultancy offices.
