About the interactive networking session

Rijkswaterstaat has developed its own Water Framework Directive (WFD) guideline to support the use of eco-engineering in designing measures that contribute to achieving WFD goals. The renewal of hydraulic structures within the water system presents opportunities to realise these ambitions. But how can we determine whether different design options truly enhance ecological value?

This year, Rijkswaterstaat and Deltares are exploring the potential of Deltares’ D-Eco Impact tool. This session offers a unique opportunity to help shape how ecological performance can be integrated and assessed in the renewal of wet hydraulic structures.

What to Expect

  • Insights into the WFD guideline and eco-engineering design principles
  • Exploration of the D-Eco Impact tool
  • Discussion of real-world cases and measurable ecological impact
  • Networking with peers from across the professional community

Who should attend?

Asset managers, designers, ecologists, policy makers, and anyone involved in the renewal of wet hydraulic structures.

Why Join?

The future of our hydraulic infrastructure is a shared responsibility. Many structures in our water system are nearing the end of their lifespan. Their renewal demands billions in investment — and smart choices that embed nature and ecology right from the design phase.

Het Kennisprogramma Natte Kunstwerken (KpNK) develops insights to support responsible decision-making and actively connects this knowledge to practice. This session is the ideal place to explore, together with colleagues, partners and field experts, how eco-engineering can be harnessed for sustainable, nature-inclusive solutions.
