This project explores the effectiveness of Nitrogen And Phosphorus load reduction measures from Source to sEA (NAPSEA), while also considering the effects of climate change. The primary goal is to support national and local authorities in identifying and implementing effective measures to reduce nutrient loads while fostering political support for action. One part of our work focuses on governance, social acceptance, and ensuring alignment with existing policies of nutrient reduction efforts.

The results of the topics will be at the core of the summer workshop:

  • Analysis results of policy instruments to reduce nutrient pollution, investigating the consistency of the policy framework.
  • Survey insights from 1,400 citizens in Germany and the Netherlands on which measures they support and find socially acceptable.
  • Findings from in-depth interviews with 29 farmers in the Rhine basin on their perspectives and needs for reducing nutrient pollution.
  • Scenario-based modelling results showing pathways to achieving safe ecological boundaries in the Wadden Sea.

The workshop language is English, as we expect participants from Germany and the Netherlands, representing water and agricultural agencies, local and regional authorities, river basin organizations, NGOs, and academia.

Registration deadline: 20 May 2025
