About Chamidu Gunaratne

Chamidu Gunaratne has a background in geoinformation sciences and geosciences . Her main field of expertise is utilization of remote sensing data including satellite imagery for spatial-temporal analysis. She has more than four years of experience in using GIS and python, javascript programming for spatial analysis.

Her previous work as a geologist in Sri Lanka involved geotechnical and geochemical analysis for governmental and non-profit agencies including research aimed at developing a landslide risk indexes for Sri Lanka, where she was involved in participatory tool development, geological mapping, landslide hazard and risk mapping, and contributing to a landslide hazard handbook for educating people in landslide-prone areas.

At Deltares, Chamidu focuses on hazard assessment and its impacts on critical infrastructure networks. She has experience with Deltares’ RA2CE model for network exposure and impact analysis globally. Currently, she is working with Deltares’ LHAT tool to assess the impact of rainfall patterns and climate change on landslide susceptibility. Additionally, she utilizes satellite imagery to generate data and methods for various projects.
