About Dawn Wong

Dawn Wong is a geotechnical advisor and researcher at Deltares. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS), where she worked on wave propagation and the detection of heterogeneity in cement-stabilised soils. Her research interests include dynamic soil-structure interaction, ground improvement, probabilistic geotechnics, and the characterisation of spatial variability in geotechnical materials.

Before joining Deltares, Dawn worked as a Research Fellow at the NUS Centre for Protective Technology, where she developed monitoring and assessment methods for rapid airfield pavement repair systems. As a Postdoctoral Researcher at Chalmers University of Technology, she focused on advanced methods for characterising the spatial variability of lime-cement columns, drawing on field data and samples obtained from the Gothenburg West Link project.

At Deltares, Dawn works on geotechnical risk assessment, infrastructure performance, and soil-structure interaction. Her work includes the assessment of foundation damage risks, the performance of foundations and pile-supported structures, and the behaviour of railway infrastructure under dynamic loading. She applies numerical modelling, data analysis, and probabilistic methods to investigate spatial variability, uncertainty, and long-term infrastructure response, contributing to the assessment and management of infrastructure assets.

Originally from Singapore, Dawn has worked and lived in Singapore, Sweden, and the Netherlands. She enjoys collaborating across disciplines and combining field measurements, numerical modelling, and data analysis to solve complex engineering problems. She is particularly interested in translating research and data into practical tools that support engineering decision-making.
