About Dirk de Lange

Dirk is an experienced researcher specializing in geotechnical experiments. This involves a wide range of tests, from basic tests to full-scale load tests. Dirk was recently involved in a campaign in which instrumented open-steel tubular piles were loaded with more than 20 MN (=2 million kg). Over the past 13 years, he has also been frequently involved in tests in the GeoCentrifuge.

Dirk likes to be involved from the very beginning—from translating societal demand into a meaningful test campaign to translating the test results into practical impact. He works closely with clients, engineers, and technicians and is not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Dirk has a pragmatic approach, which he combines with a good understanding of mechanics. For him, however, the principle always applies that “you only know what you measure, if you know what you are measuring.” He prefers to see the insights and knowledge he has gained applied directly in practice. Dirk is also active in NEN and CROW working groups.

Dirk is currently working on completing a PhD at Delft University of Technology. His research focuses on the axial load-bearing capacity of foundation piles in sand.
