About Gerard Blom

Gerard Blom has a professional career of more than 27 years in water management. He has been working at Deltares since 2010. Currently, he is the director of the Inland Water Systems Unit, leader of the research theme Sustainable Delta Planning and coordinator of the Deltares’ activities in Latin America. Prior to joining Deltares, he worked for the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Public Works where he was responsible for information and research for the Room for the River project over a period of five years. Later, he became head of the River Engineering Department and was involved in several other river management projects. Previously, he was an associate professor in water quality modelling at Wageningen University for a period of 10 years. During this time, he led several water quality modelling projects in the Netherlands, the Philippines and the United States of America.
