About Harro Jongen
Dr. Harro Jongen is a hydrometeorologist specializing in urban climate. He studies how water and heat interact and how this knowledge can contribute to climate-adaptive cities. Harro earned his PhD at Wageningen University on the interaction between water and energy balances in urban areas. In his work, he combines meteorological models at different scales, ranging from entire cities to variations within a single street.
At Deltares, Harro works on integrated solutions for cities facing flooding, heat, and drought. He links hydrological and thermal processes to develop effective strategies for climate adaptation.
Harro is involved in the Horizon Europe project Commit2Green, in which eight cities collaborate on participatory, nature-based strategies for climate neutrality and urban resilience. The project focuses on co-creation with local communities and scaling up green solutions that provide both water retention and cooling.
