About Luka Jaksic

Ir. Luka Jaksic is a hydraulic engineer educated at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He is fascinated by the interaction between human activities and aquatic ecosystems, and works at Deltares on multidisciplinary projects that focus on this interplay.

Luka’s specialties are Nature-based Solutions, innovative sediment management, and freshwater distribution, particularly in marine and coastal systems. He applies his strong technical and analytical skills to quickly understand complex challenges and translate them into practical solutions or policy advice. His ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines makes him a valuable team player in multidisciplinary settings.

His work focuses on ensuring resilient and habitable seas and deltas, supporting the wellbeing of both people and nature.

  • Energy transition (impact of large-scale offshore wind development on ecology; scour development in wind farms; feasibility and ecological impact of Blue Energy in the Wadden Sea)
  • Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and ecosystem restoration or development (seagrass and salt marsh restoration; international opportunities for NbS; insuring NbS projects)
  • Sea level rise and innovative sediment management (effects of sea level rise on sedimentation in the Port of Rotterdam; ‘building with mud’; sailing through mud)
  • Freshwater availability and distribution in estuarine and coastal systems under climate change (effect studies freshwater supply to the Wadden Sea, Voordelta, and Rhine ROFI)

Luka believes in the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and is actively involved in the NL2120 research programme on nature-inclusive solutions, Young CEDA, and the CEDA Strategic Advisory Committee (a platform for the offshore and dredging sectors). He also serves as project leader within the Offshore Wind Ecological programme (WOZEP), where he promotes collaboration between ecologists, hydrodynamicists, sediment experts, policy advisors, and remote sensing specialists.
