About Marc van Dijk

Marc van Dijk is a senior hydrologist and water resources engineer with a strong passion for applying advanced hydro-informatics to real-world water challenges. Since joining Deltares (formerly Delft Hydraulics) in 1996, he has been involved in a wide range of projects, covering water resources management, flood forecasting, and early warning systems.

Over the years, Marc has developed a strong interest in bridging technical innovation with practical application. As a hydro-informatics specialist, he has contributed to the development and application of hydrological information systems such as HYMOS and the Flood Early Warning System Delft-FEWS. What drives me most is translating hydrological models and data into practical tools that support better and more informed decision-making in water management.

Flood early warning systems have been a central focus throughout his career. He played an important role in the development of Delft-FEWS and have been closely involved in implementing the system in flood forecasting centres worldwide. His work has taken him to many regions, including the Netherlands (supporting water boards and the Rhine and Meuse rivers), Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Pakistan (Indus River), Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and several countries in Africa. These international experiences have given Marc a broad perspective on how local conditions, combined with close collaboration with end users, shape effective and sustainable water management solutions.

He is a strong team player who enjoys leading projects involving multiple stakeholders. At Deltares, our mission is to translate the latest developments in meteorology and hydrology into practical, usable solutions. Together with an international team of experts, he has contributed to the development and implementation of national flood forecasting and early warning systems in countries such as Australia, England, and Switzerland.
