About Mario Fuentes Monjaraz

Mario Alberto Fuentes Monjaraz is a civil engineer with expertise in water management. His work focuses on monitoring riverine, coastal, and marine ecosystems using digital technologies to inform the general public, Protected Area managers, and researchers about ecosystem health.

Mario is experienced in data analysis of climate datasets, earth observation data and in-situ data of carbon fluxes. He is engaged in open-source software development, FAIR data principles, and digital platforms for data exploration.

Mario began his career at Deltares as a junior advisor in 2022, working on software development for Earth observation data processing in European projects such as eShape and GEOSS portal case studies. He is actively integrating Earth observation capabilities into Deltares projects, including the REACT-Tool (REACT Home) and the CMEMS Global Coastal Satellite-Derived Bathymetry initiative.

Currently, Mario is exploring the use of artificial intelligence for ecosystem classification and ecosystem functioning modelling, integrating multi-sensor data and in-situ measurements.
