About Nishchal Sardjoe

Nishchal Sardjoe leads the Urban Resilience and Spatial Transformation department at Deltares, where he champions integrated approaches to climate-resilient urban development. “We don’t just adapt cities to climate change— we reimagine them to thrive in it,” he says.

His work contributes directly to Deltares’ mission of Enabling Delta Life by advancing strategies that make cities more liveable, flood-safe, and climate-neutral. Nishchal combines strategic foresight with a collaborative mindset, bringing together spatial planning, water-soil systems, and nature-based solutions to tackle complex urban challenges.

Nishchal is also responsible for Deltares’ portfolio in Indonesia, Suriname and Bangladesh and helps to overview activities in the Asia and Pacific Region.

Career highlights include among others setting up and leading integrated long-term programmes in Bangladesh and Suriname and driving international collaboration with particularly the World Bank on urban resilience projects in the Pacific region

Nishchal is known for his ability to connect disciplines and people, fostering innovation through inclusive leadership and systems thinking.
