About Ronald Roosjen

Ronald Roosjen is senior advisor and researcher. He contributes to Deltares’ mission, “Enabling Delta Life,” by linking knowledge to societal challenges in the areas of water management, climate adaptation, and the energy transition. He works at the intersection of research, policy, and practice, and is always seeking solutions that are not only technically strong but can also be successfully implemented.

His strength lies in connecting people and knowledge, asking the right questions, and translating complex issues into clear insights and concrete courses of action. Ronald says of this: “The greatest impact occurs when knowledge doesn’t just sit on the shelf, but helps people make better choices.”

Through his work, he contributes to addressing societal challenges such as climate-resilient water systems, a sustainable energy supply, and future-proof infrastructure. One of his most visible successes is his contribution to the development of Smart Water Management in the Netherlands (Slim Watermanagement in Nederland). Through knowledge development, consulting, and collaboration with water managers, he laid the groundwork for an approach in which water is retained, distributed, and managed more intelligently. This approach has helped mitigate the effects of the droughts in recent summers and better maintain water availability.

In addition, he contributed to the “Nieuwe Warmte Nu” program, in which knowledge was translated into practical guidelines for municipalities working on the heat transition.

Ronald is naturally curious, enjoys thinking beyond the boundaries of disciplines, and draws energy from collaboration. Whether it’s water, heat, or innovation, he’s always looking for connections that help society move forward.
