About Ruben White
Ruben White is a coastal and offshore engineer & researcher at Deltares. He works in the Resilient Ports and Coasts department, where he contributes to sustainable and climate-resilient coastal systems through the integration of morphology, earth observation, and data science.
Ruben holds a Master of Science in Water Engineering and Management from the University of Twente (2021, cum laude). With a background in both river and coastal engineering and integrated water management, he brings a broad and applied perspective to his work. He is analytical and collaborative, always aiming to connect scientific insights with real-world challenges. In recognition of his early potential, he received the Jong Talent Aanmoedigingsprijs from the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities in 2017.
At Deltares, Ruben applies his skills in morphodynamic analysis, remote sensing, and data-driven methods to support Moonshot 1 (ensuring habitable deltas) and Moonshot 4 (accelerating the energy transition). Project highlights include:
• Mapping intertidal bathymetry on a global scale based on satellite imagery
• Morphodynamic assessments for offshore wind farms in various locations, including the North Sea and Taiwan Strait
• The Virtual Climate Lab, an interactive tool that brings scientific data into the real world, enabling meaningful stakeholder engagement
