About Sibren Loos

Sibren Loos is a senior advisor in water quality and river basin management, focusing on both the short term (operational issues) and the long term (scenario analyses). His expertise lies in water quality modelling and the interface between emissions (what is the source of pollutants), system analysis (what is the impact of climate change or human activity), and forecasting (how can we control/manage water quality real time). Sibren has wide experience in scenario modelling projects (nutrient loading, source analysis, effects of floating solar panels and their impact on ecology) and operational applications (predicting water temperature, algal blooms, and salt intrusion).

In addition to his modelling work, Sibren is involved in the dissemination of water quality data through web viewers such as Chemtrend and KRW-NUtrend, or Delft-FEWS based operational platforms. He also has considerable experience in providing trainings and workshops, both in the Netherlands and abroad (including the EU, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Uruguay).

Areas of expertise:

  • Water quality modelling
  • Operational water quality management
  • Source analysis of emissions; ‘source 2 sea’, ‘zero pollution’
  • Data management systems for water quality monitoring
