About Tobias van Batenburg

Ir. Tobias van Batenburg has been working as an advisor and researcher in detailed hydraulics at Deltares since 2023. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Hydraulic Engineering from Delft University of Technology in 2023, with a focus on flow behavior around and within hydraulic structures. After graduation, he immediately joined Deltares.

Tobias specialises in detailed hydraulics: understanding and analysing how water behaves near and within structures. He conducts measurements and experiments in both laboratory and field settings and applies these insights to real-world challenges. His work is centered on solving practical hydraulic problems, often in close collaboration with clients.

He has worked on projects such as experimental measurements of vertical plastic distribution in the water column, field analysis of plastics in rivers, optimisation of pump sump designs, air bubble transport in pipelines, and leak detection in pipes using fiber optic cables. He also contributes to practical solutions for hydraulic issues faced by regional water authorities.

Within his team, Tobias is known for his enthusiasm, hands-on approach, and goal-oriented mindset. He values the development of knowledge and its application to real-world problems.
