About Tom Roetert

Tom Roetert is an experienced offshore engineer, actively engaged in the development and assessment of offshore wind farm projects across the globe supporting the energy transition. A particular focus is on regions such as the North Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and the Baltic Sea. His work spans both technical and managerial roles, functioning as a project manager or coordinator as well as a specialized technical consultant.

Tom has in-depth expertise in studies that emphasize data-driven and numerical analyses, particularly in the field of seabed mobility. Furthermore, the complex interactions between the seabed and offshore or nearshore infrastructure is a topic . His work supports the design and optimization of offshore wind assets by addressing geotechnical and morphodynamic challenges that could pose risks during both construction and operational phases.

In addition to his consultancy and project work, Tom is actively involved in research and development (R&D) initiatives aimed at creating and refining innovative methodologies and tools. These efforts are directed at reducing risks and uncertainties in offshore engineering. Much of this R&D is carried out in close collaboration with industry stakeholders, academic partners, and governmental organizations, ensuring that outcomes are both scientifically robust and practically applicable.

Currently, Tom's main areas of focus include:

  • Seabed dynamics and morphodynamic processes
  • The influence of geological conditions on offshore wind farm layout and foundation design
  • High-resolution routing of offshore power cables
  • Assessment of seabed dynamics and their implications for infrastructure such as cables and foundations
  • Risk-based cable burial assessments and optimization strategies
  • Scour formation around foundations and the development of mitigation solutions

Through his combined roles in consultancy, coordination, and applied research, Tom contributes to the advancement of the energy transition and supports the sustainable development of marine renewable energy infrastructure.
