Tycho Bovenschen is a hydrologist at Deltares, specializing in operational flood forecasting and early warning systems. Through his work, he contributes to addressing societal challenges by helping organizations better anticipate and prepare for floods and other water-related hazards.

His expertise lies at the intersection of hydrology, meteorology and operational water management. He focuses on the development and implementation of models and forecasting systems, translating scientific knowledge into actionable information for decision-makers. Tycho combines an analytical mindset with a pragmatic approach and enjoys working closely with end users to ensure that forecasting systems are not only scientifically sound, but also operationally relevant and user-oriented.

Over the past years, he has worked on a variety of flood forecasting and early warning projects, including the development of operational flash flood warning systems in East Africa, as well as projects across South America and Europe. A key aspect of his work is bridging the gap between technical innovation and the day-to-day needs of water managers and emergency response organizations.

In addition to project work, Tycho is passionate about sharing knowledge and building capacity. He regularly delivers training courses and workshops on forecasting systems, hydrological and hydraulic models such as Wflow and SFINCS, and operational water management.
