About Valeria Mobilia

Valeria Mobilia is a marine ecologist and researcher at Deltares, with expertise in benthic ecology, biodiversity modelling, and the impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems. She holds a PhD in Marine Biology from Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand, 2021), where she investigated the physiological responses of deep-sea sponges and corals to sedimentation stress. Her background includes a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and Ecology from the University of Messina, Italy.

At Deltares, Valeria works on projects at the interface between ecology and data science, contributing to European research initiatives such as OBAMA-NEXT and TRIDENT. She specializes in species distribution modelling, habitat suitability modelling, and biodiversity assessments using statistical and machine learning techniques.
