Ghada El Serafy
Specialist in Data Assimilation, Data Sciences and Applied Informatics
Dr. Ir. El Serafy (Specialist) is an expert on data sciences in ecosystem modelling and services. She is actively involved in the strategic research and developments within Deltares and is an assistant professor in data assimilation and optimization in the Technical University of Delft. She has a broad experience in uncertainty analysis, sensitivity analysis and assimilation related to marine environmental quality and ecosystem health as well as integrated monitoring and assessment methods. She supervises several doctoral degrees and master of Science students. She leads several national and international projects in data assimilation applications in different fields such Hydraulics, Hydrology, Groundwater, Sedimentology and Morphology, Coastal and River Engineering, Meteorology, Environmental Engineering and Ecology. She is also leading several EU FP7 projects within Deltares and participating in others dealing with ecosystem modelling and ecosystem services and the use of Earth Observation.

Development and application of EnKF in the integrated groundwater and surface water model (Modflow-Sobek) and its application for the Twente region in the synergy project, together with TNO, Geodelft and WLDelft Hydraulics.
Sensitivity analysis and application of EnKF in the 3D water quality model for improving the algae bloom prediction in the Hong Kong region and in the North Sea
Development of EnKF in a 3D water quality transport model for the assimilation of suspended particulate matter satellite information and its application in the North Sea together with the Port of Rotterdam Authorities, to provide a sedimentology atlas for the area.

Development of EnKF and Particle Filters in combination with different process models in an integrated Data Assimilation Toolbox (DATools).
