About Bas van Maren

Dr. van Maren is an expert in the field of fine sediment transport modelling and morphology. He has over 15 years of experience in sediment transport studies in fluvial, estuarine, deltaic, and marine environments. He has been involved in projects within the Netherlands and abroad, particularly in Asia and the United States. His key expertise is modelling of fine sediment transport related to morphologic changes, water quality, and dredging. He has carried out siltation studies for numerous existing and future ports and approach channels in Iraq, Kuwait, Vietnam, Belgium, Guinee, the Netherlands, India, China and Belgium. Water quality studies range from visibility problems (especially near sensitive ecosystem in temperate and tropical climates), soil remediation (particularly in the United States), transport of contaminated sediments (the Netherlands, United States), and ecosystem studies in Taiwan, the United Sates, and the Netherlands. In projects, his role is to develop conceptual models of system behavior and the setup of sediment transport models. Within Deltares, he contributes to the development of Delft3D Flexible Mesh. He has (co) authored more than 30 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and is reviewer for 10 international journals.
