About Bas van Vossen

A user-centric pragmatic approach based on over 23 year of experience. Originally trained in Applied Physics with a specialisation in numerical fluid dynamics, expert advisor Bas van Vossen brings together interdisciplinary expert teams to address various challenges in the fields of Deltares. Consistent in his approach is always a client-centric pragmatic approach aimed at providing genuine advice and solutions. He builds on 23 years of experience in national and international projects as an advisor in marine, coastal and industrial hydrodynamics. He further brings almost 10 years of managerial experience to the tables, having headed the department Hydrodynamics for Infrastructure and Industry with around 25 advisors and researchers. Since 2020 he combines this experience with advances in digital system applications and innovations for delta & water technology.

Cooling water and early warning systems for power and desalination

One of his own main expertise fields is in water intakes for power plants and desalination. In recent projects early warning systems have been developed to help mitigate extreme debris ingress and clogging of cooling water intakes. In these projects data streams from above and various sensors including underwater cameras, sonars, numerical models are processed with ML and AI technologies and integrated in FEWS data platforms.

Computational Linux Cluster

As Product Owner of Deltares on-premise Linux computational cluster he has a the following mission: the computational facilities give users a robust, easily-accessible, user-friendly capacity to efficiently carry out computations, thereby accelerating mission driven work and creating impact.

DigiLab TK

As coordinator of DigiLab Toegepaste Kennis (Applied Knowledge), he leads a consortium of 10 Dutch Applied Knowledge Institutes in erecting a virtual facility to enable easy access to and use of each other’s data, algorithms and models.

Japan and South Korea

Making us of his regional experience, cultural understanding and extensive network, Bas fulfils the role of R&D and projects relations manager for Japan and South Korea.
