About Henriette Otter

Henriëtte is currently head of the department ‘Urban Water and Subsurface Management’ and expert on governance and science-policy interface within Deltares. In our group research and consultancy are carried out on a variety of topics related to urbanization in delta areas. Our focus is on issues concerning sustainable use of urban water resources and sustainable development of the urban subsurface. Our unique expertise and combination of disciplines allows us to contribute to strategic projects and innovation processes, supporting the sustainable development of cities and working towards safer, healthier and more climate-resilient urban environments.

Henriëtte is an expert on dealing with challenges in the domain of governance and the science-policy interface. She has worked as an advisor on integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) with experience in the Netherlands and abroad. As a researcher, Henriëtte has been involved in large-scale interdisciplinary research projects dealing with governance issues, the socio-economic impacts of climate change on coastal areas and the use of economic instruments in flood control. As a consultant she has provided advice on integrated solutions for a range of coastal and estuarine management issues including the analysis of the interactions between human and natural systems, integrated assessment of effects of interventions and the use of evaluation techniques in coastal studies.

Van 2003 tot 2007 was Henriëtte parttime verbonden aan de Universiteit Twente als universitair docent Watermanagement bij de afdeling Water Engineering and Management. Ze was co-promotor van één promovendus en begeleidt momenteel twee promotieprojecten over het onderwerp ‘kennis in besluitvorming’. Henriëtte Otter heeft een MSc. graad in Openbaar Beleid en Waterbeheer (1995) en een PhD. graad in Integrated assessment and modelling (2000).
