About Jan Gerritse

Dr. Jan Gerritse is specialist microbiology and senior scientist at Deltares. Jan has 27 years of experience as a researcher in the area of applied and environmental microbiology. His work concerns the detection, control and use of microorganisms in their natural environments and in laboratory systems. He specializes in research on the biodegradation of organic contaminants, nutrient removal, biofouling abatement and microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) in the environment and industrial systems.

Jan develops and applies new (bio)remediation concepts for treatment of contaminated groundwater systems, surface water, drainage water and industrial water sources. He tests these treatment technologies in the laboratory in batch cultures, chemostats and soil columns and subsequently on-site using pilot and full-scale installations.

Jan participated in many national and European research projects. Typical clients are the Dutch government, European commission, water boards, NGO’s, water users and producers, technology suppliers and the chemical, oil, textile, metal and food industry.
