About Klaudia Horváth

Dr. Klaudia Horváth is an expert in the real-time control of water systems, with more than ten years of research experience in applying model predictive control to irrigation canals, lakes, and waterways. Her work spans operational flood forecasting, real-time control for hydropower systems, and optimisation-based scenario studies for water distribution.

Bridging the gap between research and practice is central to her mission. Although real-time control of water systems has existed for half a century—and thousands of new algorithms and numerical studies are published each year—these powerful methods remain rarely implemented in real-world operations. Dr. Horváth is committed to changing that by connecting theory with practical application and ensuring that control algorithms genuinely support the management of our water systems.

At Deltares, she collaborates closely with clients to co-create solutions. Through shared understanding and mutual respect, she and her partners gain deep insight into the challenges at hand and deliver solutions that truly fit the problem, rather than pushing a preferred approach. She advances these solutions by developing and applying RTC-Tools, Deltares’ software for mathematical optimisation and decision support in the water domain.
