About Luca van Duren

Dr. Luca van Duren is a marine ecologist, specialized in the interaction between biota, fluid dynamics and sediment. She enjoys working on a wide variety of multidisciplinary integrative projects in marine and coastal waters, ranging from ecosystem restoration and environmental management to aquaculture modeling tools. The focus of her work is on the functioning of ecosystems in relation to physical processes (hydrodynamics and sediment movement) and human use. This includes the major changes that we can expect in the North Sea in the coming decades as a result of the energy transition (major increase in offshore wind and other forms of marine energy generation), the food transition (changes from less fishing to more cultivation), the nature transition (recovery of ecosystem functions that have been lost due to human intervention) and climate change.
