About Pieter van Geer

Pieter van Geer graduated from the University of Delft in 2007 in the field of coastal engineering. After graduating, he gained experience at Deltares as a dune safety advisor. During this period, Pieter was at the cradle of various software applications for assessing flood safety:

  • MorphAn (a software package to determine coastal development and coastal safety)
  • Riskeer (an important part of the assessment and design tools with which the safety of dikes and dunes can be assessed)

After gaining these experiences in the field of flood risk management, he was project leader of the development of the assessment and design instruments, with which we assess the safety of dikes and dunes against flooding in the Netherlands and substantiate dike improvements.

He becomes motivated by helping others with his knowledge about making dikes and dunes safer against flooding. In doing so, he likes to make the connection between the development of new methods and knowledge in, for example, the research facilities of Deltares and their significance for the management and improvement of our flood defences. Pieter's motivation is to increase safety against flooding.
