About Sam Boerlijst

Dr. Sam Boerlijst is an aquatic ecologist with expertise on ecological responses to human disturbances, and downstream impacts on water quality and health. With a keen interest in bridging molecular detection methods and traditional biodiversity monitoring, as well as linking biodiversity impacts to management perspective, Sam uses his background in mosquito-borne diseases, experimental environmental DNA (eDNA) research and protocol development for ecological community assessments.

He acquired his doctorate on the impact of human disturbances on mosquito ecology within a One Health context and has on-the-ground scientific research experience in the Netherlands, Dutch Caribbean and Kenya. Sam has served as academic researcher, supervisor and reviewer.
