About Suzanne van Eekelen

Dr. Suzanne van Eekelen is an adviser and researcher in geo-engineering, specialising in geosynthetics and soil reinforcement, including basal reinforced piled embankments. She also has extensive experience in physical modelling, field monitoring and forensic engineering. Dr. van Eekelen obtained her MSc and PhD from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

Suzanne has published over 175 peer-reviewed papers and delivered more than 50 keynotes, invited lectures and short courses worldwide. Her research on geosynthetic-reinforced pile-supported embankments earned her several awards, including the IGS Award from the International Geosynthetics Society.

She is currently involved in various consultancy and research projects covering retaining walls, industrial sites, ports, geosynthetics, durability and sustainability of geosynthetics, soil protection and forensic engineering.

In addition, Suzanne chairs several Dutch design guideline working groups, including 'Design Parameters for Geosynthetic Reinforcement', the 'Dutch National Annex on Soil Reinforcement for the New Eurocode', 'Basal Reinforced Piled Embankments', and 'Reinforced Soil Retaining Walls'. She is also a member of the National Council Soil Protection on behalf of Ministry and provinces (Advieskamer Bodembescherming).
